"Baseball is 90% mental—the other half is physical.” (Yogi Berra)

THE FOUNDATIONS OF SUCCESS

Yogi was at least half right. How many times have you heard announcers describe athletes as too short, too slow, too weak, yet gush over their ability to ‘just win?’  How many times have actors with seemingly modest talent and even more modest looks turned into our greatest thespians?  How many of our greatest inventors, entrepreneurs, and scientists were considered only average students?  What all those who excel have in common is a high degree of motivation and an approach that allows them to totally engage.  These are the foundations of extraordinary performance.  Tiger Woods isn’t the best golfer because of his driving, iron play or putting.  He is the best because of his drive and his remarkable ability to engage completely.  Whether in the classroom, on the ball field, or on the stage, young people can learn how to discover their own motivation and develop an approach that gives them the best chance to fully engage, perform extraordinarily, and succeed.
